Šivčeva hiša Gallery atrium Location; Radovljica, Slovenia Client; Museum Radovljica Area; 140 m2 Project; 2001 Construction; 2003 Landscape architecture; Matej Kučina One of the most interesting buildings in the old town centre of Radovljica is the house Šivčeva hiša, built in medieval-renaissance, civic style. The backyards in the city centre have changed over the centuries, from backyards, stalls and workrooms, to vegetable gardens. The backyard as well as the house is today used mostly as gallery space, offering the possibility of organising cultural-artistic events. The arrangement of the backyards illustrate many historical facts of the area, at the same time, using separated areas, it enables different program activities. The main elements of the project are: a covered and outer paved platform, lapidary in the renaissance arcade niches with permanent exhibition of plastics and “gartelc” – the motif of vegetable garden with beans, as an element of historical detail.
