Begunje Psychiatry hospital theme park Location; Begunje, Slovenia Client; Begunje Psychiatry hospital Area; 1400 m2 Project; 2004 Project team; Matej Kučina, Tanja Maljevac, Luka Vidic The space is designed as a complex, articulated and programme-vivid park area, which consists of different connected thematic ambiences. It represents small fantasy gardens, set in single ventricles of the space. They are designed in a way, that enables the patients and visitors to recuperate, to think or meditate, or they can socialize and amuse themselves in these fantasy gardens. Each unit has a different image – ambient, which is different in programme, design, dimension and topography point of view and made of different materials and equipment. A sort of Disneyland or Garden of Eden. In fact, the space works as an apartment with different thematic rooms, where the outer rooms enable visual and spatial communication with the open space; the inner rooms are more introverted and closed. All eight rooms are interactive connected by the communication network, which cuts the uniform area in several smaller thematic parts. The new arrangement also includes the museum of National liberation war, for one room is used as a waiting room or entry hall for museum visitors. The thematic rooms are as follows: the meditation room (sandy Japanese garden), the room of fragrant plants (grass flat with fragrant perennial beds), the white room (the birch trees with stack of white firewood), gazebo (green crest with ivy and circumferential bench) the beach (wavy grass area with built-in water-resistant pads), the waiting room (wooden pavement with wooden bench – deck chair), the living room (folded surface of multicoloured rubber pavement), the water mirror (shallow triangular pool with water, tread stones and Japanese Carp – Koi).
