The former gravel pit as a pond has today an important ecologic and sport-recreational function for this part of town. The variety of programmes and spatial typologies on the border between the urban and natural space represents the greatest quality of the location.
The maximising of the utmost poles of the urban and natural is in accordance with the concept adjusted in relation to the various programmes, serving the development and protection principle. This means, beside and on the pond, the programmes of urban area are re-established, at the same time the development and the existence of ecological niches and different biotopes is enabled.
The area of development programmes (including the sport-recreational, cultural, administrative and commercial activities) is foreseen on the east, urban side of the pond, this is why this shore part is planned as very urban.
The protection programmes are located on the west side of the pond, surrounded by a natural and cultural landscape and therefore less burdened.
